This award was established by the Graduate Representative Council and funded by the Graduate Students’ Association of the University of Calgary (GSA) in recognition of students who have demonstrated initiative in improving the graduate student experience for graduate students at the University of Calgary. This award is not meant to fund an initiative, but rather recognize individuals who have created an initiative which benefits the graduate community at the University of Calgary.

Open to students registered in a graduate program in the Faculty of Graduate Studies who are in good standing in their program. GSA Committee Chairs who completed an initiative under the purview of their role as a committee chair are not eligible.

GSA Sustainability Award

Deadline: March 15, 2017

This award was established by the GSA Sustainability Committee of the University of Calgary. It recognizes graduate students at the University of Calgary who have completed projects or have ongoing projects that improve quality of life through a combination of technological/scientific advances and sustainable development. The project can be either academic or non-academic. Those with general sustainable aspects are highly valued. The project should have close ties to at least one aspect of the sustainability concept: nature and environment, economy, social health, and individuals’ well-being. It can address a general issue/problem/advancement in the university or in the community at a larger scale.

In addition to the original $1,000 award value (funded through Quality Money Grant of the GSA), the winner of this award may also receive a $150 top-up through the office of sustainability, donated by Dr. Bryan Wheeler to recognize graduate student achievement in sustainability on campus.

Questions and applications can be sent to sepideh.afkhamigoli@ucalgary.ca
