ALBERTA GRADUATE CITIZENSHIP AWARD

Applications will be accepted between October 2 and October 15.

Digital copies should be submitted by clicking the link above. A hard copy of the application must also by dropped off at the GSA office by November 1

Deadline: October 15, 2017

The Graduate Student Association is seeking applicants for the Alberta Graduate Citizenship Award. This award recognizes graduate students who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to their fellow students and/or Alberta communities through public service and volunteer activities. Please note that all graduate students are eligible to apply regardless of citizenship status (citizens, permanent residents, students on a study permit etc.).

Individual awards are granted in the amount of $2,000 and 20 such awards are available to UCalgary students.

The GSA Award Committee will choose the 20 top applications. These applications will then be sent to the Government of Alberta for approval.

Graduate Representative Council Initiative Award

Check back for future deadlines!

This award was established by the Graduate Representative Council and funded by the Graduate Students’ Association of the University of Calgary (GSA) in recognition of students who have demonstrated initiative in improving the graduate student experience for graduate students at the University of Calgary. This award is not meant to fund an initiative, but rather recognize individuals who have created an initiative which benefits the graduate community at the University of Calgary.

Open to students registered in a graduate program in the Faculty of Graduate Studies who are in good standing in their program. GSA Committee Chairs who completed an initiative under the purview of their role as a committee chair are not eligible.

GSA Sustainability Award

Deadline: January 29, 2018

This award was established by the GSA Sustainability Committee of the University of Calgary. It recognizes graduate students at the University of Calgary who have completed projects or have ongoing projects that improve quality of life through a combination of technological/scientific advances and sustainable development. The project can be either academic or non-academic. Those with general sustainable aspects are highly valued. The project should have close ties to at least one aspect of the sustainability concept: nature and environment, economy, social health, and individuals’ well-being. It can address a general issue/problem/advancement in the university or in the community at a larger scale.

In addition to the original $1,000 award value (funded through Quality Money Grant of the GSA), the winner of this award may also receive a $150 top-up through the office of sustainability, donated by Dr. Bryan Wheeler to recognize graduate student achievement in sustainability on campus.

Political Leadership Award

Deadline: February 12, 2018

This award was established by the Graduate Students’ Association of the University of Calgary (GSA) to recognize the significant effort by an elected public official to undertake action on issues facing graduate students specifically at the University of Calgary, or more generally in the province of Alberta.

Application forms and terms of reference will be available closer to the application deadline.

Graduate Students should submit:

  1. Completed Nomination Form
  2. Include any documentation to support the nomination.

Students are eligible to submit more than 1 nomination each.

Excellence Awards

Deadline: January 29, 2018

Every year, the GSA presents Excellence awards to support administration staff, supervisors, research assistants and teaching assistants who have gone above and beyond their job descriptions to help and support graduate students.

GSA EMERGING LEADER AWARD

Deadline: January 22, 2018

This scholarship, valued at $2000 and awarded to one student, was established by the Graduate Students’ Association of the University of Calgary (GSA) in recognition of newly-admitted students who have demonstrated outstanding academic and leadership potential, and involvement in the Calgary community within the first year of their studies.

GSA Leadership Award

Deadline: January 22, 2018

The GSA will be awarding one GSA Leadership Scholarship (valued at $5000) to a graduate student (registered full-time in a graduate program in the Faculty of Graduate Studies) who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and involvement in the university community.

To apply students should submit:

  1. Their most recent transcript
  2. A copy of their current CV highlighting volunteer contributions
  3. A maximum 1-page statement describing their leadership and citizenship activities and outlining their contributions to the university community, and
  4. Two reference letters that support the leadership experience and involvement in the university community
