INNOVATION, DEVELOPMENT, & ENTREPRENEURSHIP AWARDS

Applications will be accepted between February 19 and March 5

This award aims to support and develop innovation and entrepreneurial thinking among the University of Calgary’s graduate student body by making local funds and expertise available over an 8-month consultation, guidance, and collaborative process with Innovate Calgary.

Graduate Representative Council Initiative Award

Extended deadline! Applications will be accepted between February 23 and March 9, 2018

Deadline: March 9, 2018

This award was established by the Graduate Representative Council and funded by the Graduate Students’ Association of the University of Calgary (GSA) in recognition of students who have demonstrated initiative in improving the graduate student experience for graduate students at the University of Calgary. This award is not meant to fund an initiative, but rather recognize individuals who have created an initiative which benefits the graduate community at the University of Calgary.

Open to students registered in a graduate program in the Faculty of Graduate Studies who are in good standing in their program. GSA Committee Chairs who completed an initiative under the purview of their role as a committee chair are not eligible.

Mentorship Award

Applications will be accepted between February 12 and February 26

Deadline: February 26, 2018

This award was established by the Graduate Students’ Association of the University of Calgary (GSA) to recognize the significant contribution of a mentor in the MENTORSHIP GSA program. Nominators must have actively participated for a full 6 months in MENTORSHIP GSA, and met with their mentor at least 6 times while in the program.

Political Leadership Award

Deadline: March 9, 2018

The political leadership award recognizes those connected with government who have improved the lives of graduate students at the University of Calgary. This can include politicians, political staff, administrative staff, members of advocacy organizations, and stakeholders who have a connection to municipal, provincial, and federal government initiatives that positively affect graduate students. The award is adjudicated by the Board in early March, suggestions for the award should include a name, position, and a brief description of their contributions to the graduate student community. Please submit any suggestions to vpext.gsa@ucalgary.ca by March 9, 2018.


GSA Sustainability Award

Applications are available through the Sustainability Office’s website

Deadline: February 21, 2018

This award was established by the GSA Sustainability Committee of the University of Calgary in partnership with the Sustainability Office. It recognizes individuals or groups of graduate students at the University of Calgary who have completed academic or non-academic projects advancing environmental, social, and economic sustainability in the University or Calgary community.

The $1,500 award value is funded by the Quality Money Grant of the GSA ($1,250) and the Sustainability Office ($250). The winner will receive a joint-award from the GSA and the Sustainability Office.

You can nominate individual or a group of graduate students. You can also nominate yourself.


GSA EMERGING LEADER AWARD

Applications will be accepted between January 22 and February 5

Deadline: February 5, 2018

This scholarship, valued at $2000 and awarded to one student, was established by the Graduate Students’ Association of the University of Calgary (GSA) in recognition of newly-admitted students who have demonstrated outstanding academic and leadership potential, and involvement in the Calgary community within the first year of their studies.

GSA Leadership Award

Applications will be accepted between January 22 and February 5

Deadline: February 5, 2018

The GSA will be awarding one GSA Leadership Scholarship (valued at $5000) to a graduate student (registered full-time in a graduate program in the Faculty of Graduate Studies) who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and involvement in the university community.

Excellence Awards

Applications will be accepted between January 29 and February 12

Deadline: February 12, 2018

Every year, the GSA presents Excellence awards to support administration staff, supervisors, research assistants and teaching assistants who have gone above and beyond their job descriptions to help and support graduate students.

Application forms and terms of reference will be available closer to the application deadline.

 


ALBERTA GRADUATE CITIZENSHIP AWARD

Applications will be accepted between October 2 and October 15.

Digital copies should be submitted by clicking the link above. A hard copy of the application must also by dropped off at the GSA office by November 1

Deadline: October 15, 2017

The Graduate Student Association is seeking applicants for the Alberta Graduate Citizenship Award. This award recognizes graduate students who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to their fellow students and/or Alberta communities through public service and volunteer activities. Please note that all graduate students are eligible to apply regardless of citizenship status (citizens, permanent residents, students on a study permit etc.).

Individual awards are granted in the amount of $2,000 and 20 such awards are available to UCalgary students.

The GSA Award Committee will choose the 20 top applications. These applications will then be sent to the Government of Alberta for approval.
