The Graduate Students’ Association (GSA) at the University of Calgary recognizes that many of our fellow graduate students are deeply impacted by conflicts occurring around the world. We want you to know: we see you, we care about you, and we stand in solidarity with all those affected.
If you are experiencing distress or hardship due to global conflict, please remember that you are not alone. There are resources available to support your well-being — emotionally, financially, academically, and socially:
Emergency Financial Support
Graduate students facing financial hardship related to conflict can apply for:
Both bursaries are listed under the “What types of emergency funding are available?” dropdown.
Mental Health & Wellness
Through the Student Wellness | Student Benefits Plan, you have access to free, confidential counselling services available anytime, anywhere by phone or online.
Academic Considerations
We recognize that global conflicts may affect your ability to meet academic deadlines or maintain focus. If you are struggling, we encourage you to have open conversations with your supervisors and professors about possible accommodations, including extensions or adjustments to your workload. Many instructors are willing to work with you to ensure your academic success during difficult times.
Community & Connection
That Grad Space, located in Crowsnest Hall, is a welcoming venue that graduate students can reserve for gatherings of 30–35 people. It’s a space to connect, share, and support one another.
We understand that global conflicts can have a profound impact on your mental health, academic focus, and overall well-being. If there are specific ways the GSA can support you, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are here to listen, to learn, and to help.
You are not alone. We are with you.
