A UCALGARY STUDENTS’ GUIDE TO YOUR ACADEMIC RIGHTS
Graduate Students Have Rights, Too!
Graduate students are an essential part of the University of Calgary’s academic community. As both learners and researchers, you deserve to be treated with fairness, respect, and integrity. The Graduate Students’ Association (GSA) ensures your rights are protected and your voice is represented at all levels of university governance, fostering an environment where you can thrive academically and professionally.

How to get support
If you encounter academic issues in your classes, it’s best to contact your instructor or supervisor first. If that’s not successful, you can contact the department head of the department in which you’re taking your course.
If you still cannot resolve your problem, there are others on campus you can contact for help:
- GSA Union Membership Services Officer (Yammie Chung): labour.gsa@ucalgary.ca
- GSA VP Academic (Jacob Amengor): vpa.gsa@ucalgary.ca
- Student Ombuds Office: ombuds@ucalgary.ca, MacEwan Student Centre, Room 274 (down the hallway beside Stör)
- Student Legal Assistance: slacalgary.com, (403) 220-6637
